Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Seeking Volunteers for Largest Treecycling Event in Georgia

DULUTH, Ga. - Jan. 13, 2015 - PRLog -- As Keep Georgia Beautiful’s state-wide Bring One for the Chipper initiative celebrates more than 20 wonderful years of success, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful is extremely proud of its role as an innovator for the program. The Duluth-based, environmentally-focused non-profit organization has been recycling Christmas trees for the last 31 years and has earned its standing as host to the largest “treecycling” event in Georgia. For the past few weeks, local citizens have dropped off thousands of live Christmas trees to area fire stations at the request of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. The trees collected will soon be transferred to Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville in preparation for Gwinnett County’s Bring One for the Chipper event, which is slated for Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 9 a.m. to noon. During this one-day event, most of the trees will be transformed into mulch for use in landscaping projects throughout Gwinnett County – including local parks, roadway beautification initiatives and more. Some trees will be sunk into area lakes to serve as fish habitats, while others will be converted to fuel and other uses. Of course, a major key to the success of Bring One for the Chipper is the invaluable participation of local volunteers.

“As is the case with most of our events and programs, we rely heavily on the involvement of local citizens and businesses that truly care about the beautification and preservation of our community,” explains Connie Wiggins, Executive Director for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “In addition to our volunteers, we are incredibly grateful to the wonderful sponsors and advocates of this program, such as the Gwinnett County Fire Department, Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, Gwinnett County Department of Transportation, Georgia Power, Jackson EMC and Republic Services.”

Gwinnett citizens who wish to volunteer for the Bring One for the Chipper Christmas Tree Recycling Event on January 24, 2015 at Bethesda Park are invited to register online at www.GwinnettCB.org/volunteer/bring-one-for-the-chipper/.  Business groups, church groups, civil organizations, neighborhood associations and school clubs of 4 or more participants are also welcome to take part in this event. The park is located at 225 Bethesda Church Road in Lawrenceville, and the chippers will be set up near the soccer fields. Volunteers are encouraged to dress comfortably in close-toed shoes and clothing they don’t mind getting dirty. Gloves are also strongly recommended. Volunteers must be 14 years or older, and must arrive with a signed Volunteer Release Form in hand in order to take part in the event.
