Triunfo YMCA Wraps Up Season of Giving

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - Jan. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- The Triunfo YMCA was busy this holiday season providing food and gifts for the needy in the community.

         Each year, families who attend the YMCA childcare sites in Agoura Hills and Westlake Village donate Thanksgiving food items to Manna, the Conejo Valley’s food bank. “Our students are taught the importance of giving back and this annual food drive is one way of doing just that,” says Chrissy Withers, Triunfo Y’s lead program director. “This year we collected enough cranberry sauce, pumpkin, yams, green beans and other items to feed about 600 struggling families.”

         In December, the Triunfo YMCA’s board of directors donated over 50 cans and jars of tuna and peanut butter to Manna after learning the food bank was in short supply. Also in December, the Triunfo Y conducted a toy drive with the Lost Hills Sheriff Station. The Y identified families in need and invited them to the station for a barbeque lunch. The kids got to tour the sheriff vehicles, meet members of the SWAT team, try on uniforms, have their face painted, have their pictures taken with Santa, meet the sheriff station horses and then pick out three toys of their choice for the holidays.

         “We also had a very special Triunfo Y member family step up to be a secret Santa to one of our member families who was selected at random from our members who receive financial aid,” says Withers. “The family was so thrilled. The kids received everything on their list.”

         The Triunfo YMCA conducts community service activities throughout the year. “YMCAs are always an important part of the cities or towns in which they’re located,” says Withers. “Our donation and financial assistance programs are just a few ways for us to say ‘thank you’ to the community we serve.”
