MILWAUKEE - Jan. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- Bel Canto Chorus and Holy Redeemer Sanctuary Choir are pleased to announce Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Saturday, January 17, at 3:00 pm, at Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ.

When asked about why this concert is important, Holy Redeemer Sanctuary Choir President Delvis Malone said, “Anything that commemorates the history of African Americans, especially the work of Dr. King, and brings the beauty and importance of Dr. King’s work to light is worthwhile.”

Musical performances by Bel Canto Chorus and the Holy Redeemer Sanctuary Choir will include: Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber; Lord Make Me an Instrument by M. Roger Holland, II; Battle Hymn of the Republic by Peter J. Wilhousky; and Joyful, Joyful arranged by Mervyn Warren and adapted by Roger Emerson, a gospel adaptation of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

The program will also feature historic words from Dr. King’s "Letters from a Birmingham Jail," Robert Kennedy's “Speech Announcing King's Assassination,” and Dr. King's "I Still Have a Dream" speech.

This tribute performance is free and open to the public; no tickets are needed.

The 2014-15 Bel Canto Chorus concert season is presented in part with support from the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF); the Bradley Foundation; the Herzfeld Foundation; CAMPAC, the Milwaukee County Arts Board; and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
