Essex CASA to host Information Session at Caldwell Public Library

NEWARK, N.J. - Jan. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- ESSEX CASA WILL HOST “INFO NIGHT” AT CALDWELL PUBLIC LIBRARY

(NEWARK, NJ)- CASA for Children of Essex County will host an information session at Caldwell Public Library to discuss its volunteer opportunities with local residents on March 1 at 6:30 PM.

C.A.S.A., an acronym for Court Appointed Special Advocates is a volunteer-based organization, trains citizens how to advocate for foster children in the family court.

“In Essex County, we are faced with children placed in foster care at staggeringly high numbers,” Rakeem Mosey, volunteer recruiter said.  “To address the numbers, we have to take advantage of getting the word out to all municipalities in Essex County in our recruitment efforts.”

CASA advocates are volunteers appointed by the family court to gather information about a child’s needs while in foster care and to represent a “child’s voice in court.”  Due to the high volume of foster care cases in Essex County, there are still many children waiting for a CASA advocate.

“CASA Info nights are a great way to have face time with the organization and answer all of your questions about becoming an advocate,” Carol Costello, Volunteer Director said. “During these sessions, we have current advocates present who share their insight on the important volunteer work they do for CASA.”
