SECURON® aluminium window tested in tilted position

Tested against forced entry and certified in the tilted position to level RC3 according to DIN EN 1627-1630 allowing for natural ventilation without obstruction and achieving level RC4 in the closed/locked position.

MARBURG, Germany - Jan. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- Windows are often said to be the most important item in the design of any building not purely from an aesthetic point of view but also for the health benefits derived from the natural light and ventilation they can provide.

They are also regarded as the most vulnerable point in the challenges faced in protecting against burglaries.

Besides the potential material/financial loses involved after these crimes there is also the emotional turmoil felt by the victims after such an invasion of their personal properties.

Transforming your property into a fortress may not always be a viable option due to the types of products available in the current market place.

SALZER now allow security solutions combining both narrow profiles coupled with larger glazing panel sizes and with the tested hardware invisibly integrated into the window system making it indistinguishable from standard non secure elements.

The requirement: To offer an aluminium window which allows on the one hand a natural supply of fresh air whilst in the tilted position and at the same time still giving a level of protection against burglary. With a window in the tilted position the chance of a burglary is increased this is also valid for forced entry resistant windows which are tested and certified according to the European norm for forced entry resistance DIN EN 1627-1630.

Why
: In the tilted window position the locking mechanism to the top and sides are in the open position and offer no protection against intruders. Only the built in locking points in the lower window area secure the window, this means ¾ of the existing locking points are ineffective in the tilted position. To make the matter worse the functional scissors which limit the opening corner in the tilting position and hold the wing at its upper edge are not designed to resist burglary attempts, e.g., with jigsaw and crowbar.

The SÄLZER security solution

Technology
: First was to replace our standard locking mechanism with a purposely designed system manufactured from high grade materials. Secondly was the introduction of additional security stays to assist the top limiting stay. Combined these additional security stays and the security bolts bolting in the lower window area protect the wing in the tilted window position certainly against lever attempts. The whole construction was successfully tested and certified by an accredited test institute according to the European norm against forced entry DIN EN 1627-1630 in resistance class RC3. In this class a variety of tools were used to try and open the window further, amongst them being cold chisels and reciprocating saw (with which the security stays were vigorously  tested ), crowbar and screwdriver. In the locked state SECURON® was tested in the resistance class RC4. In this class, the test elements are additionally tested with an electric drill and bolt cutters.

Architecture – invisible security:

The philosophy of SÄLZER is to provide security solutions which do not compromise the design and creation possibilities envisaged by architects and engineers. The security locking points and security stays are an integral part of the system with no outward signs to differentiate. Options: Fully bespoke window and door sizes, generous glazing, various surface treatments including timber cladding. Tested as single and double sash variations. Available with tilt or tilt and turn fitting. Combinable in aluminium mullion transom facades and doors.

Ease of use: SECURON® offers the same ease of use as unsecured elements. The window moves easily and can be operated with just one hand. Optional: Automatic mode.
