Follow on Google News | New Offshore Racing Congress Superyacht RuleA new superyacht handicapping regulation named as ORC Superyacht Rule (ORCsy) was the product from partnership of Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and Superyacht Racing Association (SYRA).
By: Shipandocean.com Kate Branagh, co-chair of SYRA, gave her views on ORCsy by complementing on how much the superyacht industry has extended and progressed quite considerably for the past few years. She stated the difference of yacht racing before that looked similar to a parade of sail emphasizing the social interventions and the present-day sharp focus on competitions. Furthermore, the emotional value from superyacht owners clearly defines their drive to exhibit their best everytime they enter a competition with the usual conventional sailboat racing atmosphere. Launching the ORCsy at the Loro Piana Carribbean Superyacht this coming March, Edoardo Recchi. The sporting director of YCCS explained that they will apply the rule as a result from various recurring requests of enthusiasts regarding the transparency when it comes to handicapping. A preparation for bigger development on regattas this 2015 was already perfectly set by ORCsy working team. Throughout the years, a number of rules have been implemented and used in superyacht regattas already including the IRC, Bucket Rule and ORCi. The latest among them is the International Superyacht Rule which was directed by Jim Teeters and will still remain for this year’s regattas namely Ibiza Rendezvous, Antigua Superyacht Challenge and the Millennium Cup. Great professionalism accompanied by competitive racing will be mirrored by the new rule to the superyacht regatta circuit. However, the main principle of the events would certainly not be roughly affected as assured by the Bucket coordinators. One of the new curators of the Bucket boat competitions from Vitters Shipyard, Louis Hamming, guaranteed everyone through his statement about the spirit of the Bucket that continues to concentrate on fun with a “win the party” goal in mind, which will never change. Today’s race delight and satisfaction involves a fair competition according to the time-honoured promoter of the Bucket. More than that, ORCsy will put on a different registration process wherein interested applicants should submit more information than the usual including copies of deck and sail plan, structure geometry profile and the Yacht Stability Booklet. A physical measurement of the yacht could also be an alternative if the mentioned requirements were not available on deck. Hamming, however, believed that the information would be readily available on most superyachts since these standard documents could be provided by the shipyard or naval architect right away.
