NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- The J’s Cultural Arts Theatre continues its eighth season with the South Florida premiere of Aaron Posner’s My Name is Asher Lev, adapted from the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok, author of The Chosen. Directed by Dr. Michael Andron, this is a powerful play about one man’s struggle to find the balance between his Chassidic roots and his prodigious passion for art. The play runs January 14th – 25th.

Asher Lev straddles both worlds, countering the views of his parents, community, and tradition, sometimes with devastating consequences. My Name is Asher Lev is the winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play and the John Gassner Playwriting Award.

The play brings together generations of artists, on and off the stage. Now an up-and-coming actor/director himself in New York, Jonathan Berenson reunites with his teacher and very first director to play the title role of Asher Lev. Dr. Michael Andron, J-CAT Founding Artistic Director, directed Jonathan in his middle school debut of Fiddler on the Roof. Joining the duo on stage is Lillian Andron, J-CAT Associate Artistic Director and real-life wife of Michael Andron for over 40 years. The cast is thrilled to be reunited, playing pivotal roles in this substantial play. “Jonathan really is family,” Michael said. “He grew up here at J-CAT. He’s a gifted actor and we’re lucky to have him back for this compelling project.”

My Name is Asher Lev will run January 14th – 25th at J-CAT, 18900 NE 25th Avenue, North Miami Beach, FL 33180, with show times at 2 pm, 7 pm, and 8 pm. General tickets are $20; student and senior tickets are $12. For tickets or more information, visit www.jcctheatre.com or call 866.811.4111.
