Party on wheels: Tailgating combines sports, fun and luxury

SAN DIEGO - Jan. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- While the New Year might mean holiday parties for most, sports fans also look forward to heaping helpings of football. From college bowl games to NFL playoffs, pre-game tailgate parties have long been an annual tradition, bringing friends and food together to celebrate more than just two competing teams. For some, putting together the ultimate tailgate is as important as the game itself or more so.

The first examples of tailgating date back to an 1869 football game between Rutgers and Princeton, when horse-drawn wagons supplied food and drinks, as well as a rolling party spot. Technology may have changed, but the checklist needed for a great tailgate party remains the same today, even if the horses have been replaced with horsepower: Tasty food, good drinks and the right vehicle to gather around with friends and foes alike (at least until the game begins).

Today’s tailgaters have a wide array of amenities to make hosting easier and might leave you wondering why anyone would bother going into the game. Some features that any good tailgate party impresario looks for in their vehicle of choice include:

·         Tailgate options. Why else would they call it “tailgating?” Easier-to-open power tailgates and liftgates make starting the party a snap. Many models even feature liftgates with power adapters and cup holders suitable for party needs.

·         Cabin or bed space. Take your grill on the road with ease, thanks to a number of SUVs, trucks and crossovers that give room for all your supplies. But don’t just consider the big boys. While trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 are renowned for their bed space, crossovers like the Subaru Forester and GMC Acadia offer tons of cabin space. Even minivans like the Honda Odyssey make taking the party on the road easy.

·         Easy-to-clean tailgate area. No one likes to clean up after the party. What’s worse is when you’re missing kickoff because of it! Many vehicles great for tailgating feature easily-cleaned beds or trunk areas to make messes more manageable.

·         Flexible seating. Third-row and rear-facing seat configurations aren’t just for hauling passengers. Having the ability to move seats allows for easy storage of party tools and gives guests a place to hang out.

·         Impressive sound system. No party is complete without good tunes. Video screens and even Wi-Fi connectivity bring new options to entertain guests and keep the party jumping.

No matter who wins on the field, tailgating vehicles give fans a place for fun before and after the game.
