Cultural Vistas Selected to Administer the Edmund S. Muskie Internship Program

Summer internship program will provide emerging Eurasian leaders with the opportunity to gain real-world experience that complements and enriches their graduate studies in the United States
WASHINGTON - Jan. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Cultural Vistas is pleased to announce it has been selected by the U.S. Department of State to implement the Edmund S. Muskie Internship Program.

The goal of this program is to offer current Fulbright students from Eurasia the chance to apply skills they are learning at U.S. colleges and universities to a professional internship setting, helping them gain experience and develop networks they can call upon when they return to their home countries.

"The ability to participate in a work experience is an increasingly important part of higher education, and this program allows these young people the chance to complete this task," said Dan Ewert, Vice President of Program Research, Partnerships & Innovation at Cultural Vistas. "It’s not just a chance to check a box on a to-do list for preparing for their career, it’s actually an opportunity to gain experience, learn how the American workplace functions, and develop a professional network they can call upon now, and throughout their careers. Without this chance, their graduate education is not complete.”

Since 1992, the Department of State has provided thousands of graduate school fellowships for students from across Eurasia in order to build democracies, strengthen the transition to market economies, and establish a strong civil society.

Starting in 2015, Cultural Vistas will build upon that foundation by providing hands-on, professional skill-building opportunities for up to 40 graduate students.

The program will allow participants to develop a deeper understanding of American culture while building practical skills and knowledge they can apply throughout their careers.

Its primary components include: virtual collaboration and three days of orientation activities, team-building and skill development in Washington, D.C.; a 3-to-4 month internship, and follow-on activities, including a closing seminar in the nation's capital to share and synthesize program learning outcomes.

The 2015 Edmund S. Muskie Internship Program program is open to Fulbright Foreign Students currently studying at U.S. colleges or universities. Applicants must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan.

Eligible fields of study include: business administration, economics, education, environmental management, international affairs, journalism and mass communication, law, library and information science, public administration, public health or public policy.

Program applications will be accepted until Thursday, January 29, 2015.

Named after the late Senator from Maine and preeminent U.S. environmental leader, the original academic program was established by Congress in 1992 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union to help ensure that countries in the region continued healthy economic and democratic growth.
