Briscoe Protective Systems Inc. Supports Signing of Steve Nelson’s Law

CENTEREACH, N.Y. - Jan. 7, 2015 - PRLog -- (Centereach, NY) — Bob Williams, President, Briscoe Protective Systems, Inc., says the governor’s signing of a new law requiring carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to be installed in commercial buildings in New York State will ensure the safety of business owners, employees, and customers statewide.

On December 29, 2014, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law “Steven Nelson’s Law,” which will require the installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide detectors for commercial buildings in New York State, including buildings containing one or more restaurants. The law will be effective as of June 2015.

The legislation is named in honor of Legal Sea Foods General Manager Steve Nelson, who succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning in February 2014. Similar legislation was passed at the village, town, and county levels throughout Long Island. On May 21, 2014, Mr. Williams attended the signing of Suffolk County’s Steve Nelson Act. He also spoke at numerous public hearings, stressing the need for CO detectors in all commercial buildings.

“I think this law will go a long way in protecting the citizens of the state from this colorless, odorless gas, often referred to as the ‘silent killer.’ These tragedies are preventable, and this law can help save lives,” Mr. Williams said.
