BURNS HARBOR, Ind. - Jan. 7, 2015 - PRLog -- When drivers are looking for an affordable, safe new car, there are few brands that can compare to Toyota when it comes to safety, and it gives Lake Shore Toyota great pride to announce that seven of their vehicles have taken home Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Five 2015 Toyota models have earned Top Safety Pick+:

* Prius
* Prius V
* Camry
* Highlander
* Sienna

In order for these models to earn Top Safety Pick+, they first had to take home Top Safety Pick, which requires the highest rating of “good” from the IIHS in all safety tests, allowing for an “acceptable” rating in the new small overlap front crash test. In addition to the Top Safety Pick requirements, the vehicle must also feature some form of frontal crash prevention technology to earn that “+.”

In addition to the five Top Safety Pick+ awards, the IIHS granted Top Safety Pick status to the Toyota Avalon and the RAV4. Lexus and Scion took home five more awards, with the Lexus NX, RC, and CT earning Top Safety Pick+ and Scion FR-S and tC awarded Top Safety Pick.

Dino Triantafyllos, the Chief Quality Officer for Toyota North America, responded to the awards: “At Toyota, our focus remains on the safety and peace of mind of our customers. We’re pleased the IIHS has recognized the strong and improved safety performance of our vehicles in a range of crash tests.”

Toyota's dedication to safety has been one of the reasons why their vehicles have been some of the most popular in the Indiana area, and by making state-of-the-art safety amenities like a rearview camera standard on many models, they are bringing auto safety into the future.

When factoring in the Lexus and Scion models, Toyota has taken home the most IIHS awards of any automaker. The safety organization even recognized the dramatic level of improvements made to the Prius V that catapulted it into Top Safety Pick+ status.
