There are a lot of reasons for this, including hollow walls, heavy picture frames and nails that just won’t stay in place. One solution to these and other problems is the use of hollow wall anchors.

Five Tips for Better Success

Use these bits of hardware to reinforce your pictures and take a look at some of the following tips for even more success:

     •   Use a wall stud for strength when they are available. When the stud is not an option, turn to wall anchors such as spiral anchors, toggle bolts and molly bolts (expandable metal anchors).
     •   Put that old adage, “Measure twice, cut once” to work as you determine where to hang your pictures. Mark the tentative placement of each picture with a light pencil and then make your measurements to be sure that you have everything just where you want it.
     •   If your pictures tend to tilt out of position when doors close or people walk by, simply add a couple of rubber bumpers to the back of the frame corners.
     •   If you have extra hefty frames, weigh the entire picture to ensure that your anchors can bear the weight.
     •   Use the correct type of hollow wall anchors for your wall materials: plaster, drywall or hollow concrete.

With the right fasteners, you can successfully hang your favorite pictures with precision and stability.
