MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- ORLANDO, Fla.  – Coming in third can be a big deal, especially when you are the smallest fish in the pond.

Quassy Amusement & Waterpark, Middlebury, Conn., finished third in a national “Park Of The Year” competition hosted by theme park Web site Behind The Thrills, poll organizers announced today.

In making the finals - announced early last month - Quassy faced stiff competition in its region from the likes of Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the Six Flags parks, according to the Web site. Voting in the “Park Of The Year” competition continued through mid-December with the final tally just released.

“Quassy has a loyal fan base of local families, and coaster enthusiasts, with their award-winning "Wooden Warrior" family coaster, proving that you don't have to be the biggest to make a big impact,” said Erik Yates of Behind The Thrills.

Yates noted it was a “shocking twist” to see Quassy named as a finalist and then continue to beat out larger properties to finish in the top three.

“We’re certainly excited to even be part of this elite group,” said Quassy’s George Frantzis. “Rarely do you see small, family-owned properties such as ours receive such an accolade.”

The official results of the “Park Of The Year” balloting are as follows:

1-     Silver Dollar City, Missouri; 2 – Sesame Place, Pennsylvania; 3 – Quassy Amusement & Waterpark, Connecticut; 4 – Universal Studios, Florida; 5 – Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Florida ; 6 – Disneyland, California; 7 – SeaWorld San Diego, California; 8 – SeaWorld San Antonio, Texas.

Two finalists were selected from each of four regions across the nation to make up the “Park Of The Year” ballot.
