BROOKFIELD, Wis. - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Outlining a four-point plan for keeping and improving Waukesha County as a great place to live and do business, County Supervisor Thomas Schellinger today announced his candidacy for the office of Waukesha County Executive.

Schellinger, whose District 20 includes sections of Brookfield and New Berlin, has served on the County Board since 2006. He previously served on the City of Brookfield Common Council for six years. Schellinger pledged to use his extensive knowledge of local government to move the county forward on a fiscally-conservative, economically-sound path.

“Over the past 15 years, I’ve gained a thorough understanding of local and county government from a citizen’s point of view, as well as the perspective of an active participant in the day-to-day management of operations and budgets,” said Schellinger, 61, a lifetime Waukesha County resident who lives in Brookfield. “We must continually strive to limit spending and taxation, listen to citizens’ thoughts as much as possible, and create opportunities for them to be involved in important processes and decisions.”

Schellinger outlined his plan for keeping Waukesha County both stable and prosperous:

·         Maintaining the county’s rate of spending per capita, among the lowest in Wisconsin

·         Maintaining the county’s AAA bond rating, a huge factor in controlling borrowing costs, and a status enjoyed by fewer than 100 counties in the entire nation

·         Opposing a county sales tax under all circumstances

·         Continuing to form regional partnerships with other local governments, creating cost-saving opportunities for consolidation and efficiencies

Besides nearly 15 years of local elective office experience, Schellinger brings more than three decades of business experience to the county executive race. A Marquette University graduate, he and his wife, Kim, have two adult children. A full biography is available at www.linkedin.com/in/thomasschellinger.

Schellinger’s work on the Waukesha County Board has addressed issues involving economic development, labor relations, transportation, natural resources management, and health and social services. He has long been guided by principles of fiscal conservatism, opposition to excessive government regulation and encroachment, and support for personal freedoms.

“I look forward to further detailing my campaign proposals in the coming weeks, and to a healthy debate about the many issues that voters will be considering,” Schellinger said.
