General Motors Company’s Edward Welburn wins Black Engineer of the Year Award

WASHINGTON - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Edward Welburn, Vice President of Global Design at General Motors Company was selected to win the Black Engineer of the Year award at the 2015 BEYA STEM Conference, which will take place February 5-7 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.

Ed Welburn was named Vice President, Global Design at General Motors Company (GM) in 2005, and became the first individual to lead all of the company’s Global Design Centers. As vice-president of Global Design, Welburn has created a network of 10 Design Centers in seven countries around the world. He and his team of more than 2,000 men and women are responsible for the design development of every GM concept and production car and truck globally. GM’s Design Centers are located in the United States, Germany, Korea, China, Australia, Brazil and India.

Welburn received numerous accolades at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), including, ‘North American Car of the Year’ honors for the Cadillac ATS; ‘Best in Show’ from Auto Week and The Detroit News for the Chevrolet Corvette; Eyes on Design Award for the ‘Best Production Vehicle Design’ for the Cadillac ELR. And most recently, the Cadillac Elmiraj concept car was globally revealed to critical acclaim at the August 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The 29th annual BEYA STEM Conference, hosted by US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine, the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Lockheed Martin Corporation, continues to bring together students, college administrators, recruiters, engineering and IT professionals, scientists, and high-level decision-makers from the corporate, government, and military communities, in an effort to broaden diversity in this country's technical and scientific work forces.
