January 6, 2015 - The Mama Tribe, a wellness studio for new and expecting mothers, is thrilled to announce they have opened for business in Oak Park on January 5, 2015. The location of the studio is on the second floor of the Medical Arts Building at 715 Lake Street, in the heart of downtown Oak Park.

The Mama Tribe provides a wealth of resources to help women have the best possible experience through pregnancy, childbirth, and into the early stages of motherhood. The Mama Tribe has built a space where women come together to support one another, share their experiences, and create a "tribe," a community of like-minded supportive others.

Classes and workshops for the expecting mother include but are not limited to, Bradley Method® Childbirth, and  HypnoBirthing®. They also offer breastfeeding support groups, health coaching, massage, and “mama” groups. Additionally, The Mama Tribe offers yoga classes for women who are expecting, as well as for mothers and children.

Owner Corazon Ballantine, who is also a mother says, “In the beginning of my motherhood journey I struggled finding community with other new mothers. Growing up Puerto Rican, my mother told me stories about how the women in her family provided support as she struggled through life with a newborn. My generation is one of explorers and nomads, we leave the nest and build communities in new places. I want to cultivate that familial support through education, holistic living and yoga, for the pioneering mothers of my generation."

Ballantine lives locally in Oak Park with her husband Joshua, who sells digital advertising, 2-year old son Thunder, and 8-month old daughter Hadassah. She decided to open The Mama Tribe when she was searching for resources and support after she had her own children, and had trouble finding them locally. After an extensive search, Corazon found a handful of like minded businesses in Chicago, but none that clearly emphasized the goal of community while pursuing nutrition, movement and education for new and expecting mothers.

The Mama Tribe opened their doors to the public on January 5th, and will be hosting a Grand Opening Party on January 10th from 2-4:30pm. The party will offer free yoga classes, beverages and snacks. All are welcome.
