The Beehive’s 19th Installment in its Continuing Art Series
By: The Beehive

BOSTON - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- WHAT: On Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 from 6:30PM - 8:30PM, The Beehive's co-owner and resident curator Jennifer Epstein and special guest curator Kate Gilbert are pleased to present the 19th installment in The Beehive's continuing art series entitled Sting! 19: Street Study, featuring seven Boston-based artists who use the street as muse and exhibition space.

The street can be both dark and light. It can be both inviting and hostile. It can be a presentation space for street artists, and host to photographers and flaneurs alike. Street Study highlights the many roles the street plays in the creation of artwork. We see its compelling allure at night, the people who frequent it, those who wish to be from it, symbols lifted from it and incorporated into paintings, and finally the street’s role as egalitarian canvas and exhibition space.

The ongoing Sting! series always signifies the launch of a new art installation at The Beehive and highlights an evening of great live entertainment, food & libation specials along with amazing art! For this 19th installment, Jennifer Epstein joined forces with Kate Gilbert to bring together a remarkable group of artists from all over New England. Guest curator Kate Gilbert is an artist and creative strategist exploring the role the arts and artists play in transforming our cities, our relationships, and ourselves. In her artwork, curatorial projects and public art consultancy she strives to facilitate joy and spontaneity and to help propel public appreciation of contemporary art practices.  Gilbert recently closed “Color Crossing” her public art installation in Downtown Crossing that transformed an ordinary alley into a portal to the present using sound and imagery. Her recent curatorial project, ArtLAB at The Lawn on D (Boston Convention and Exhibition Center) featured 12 projects by 23 local artists in an outdoor temporary space dedicated to experimentation.
