Follow on Google News | Fairchild Garden Opens Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan Arts CenterBy: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden “Fairchild Garden now has a spacious indoor venue to showcase both the fine arts and the performing arts,” said Nannette Zapata, Chief Operating Officer, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. “People of all ages will enjoy cultural programs in this beautiful facility, an important new venue for the southern part of Miami-Dade County.” The Arts Center is named in honor of New York philanthropists Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan, who are bringing their longstanding tradition of philanthropy and nurturing communities to Miami. Rose is co-president of Rose Associates, a New York family real estate development and management firm, whose parents underwrote the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. McQuillan, a retired New York City Police Department sergeant, and avid gardener, is on the board of the Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, an advocate for the nation’s cultural heritage. The opening of the Arts Center coincided with the opening of this year’s Art at Fairchild program featuring Chihuly at Fairchild, a new, comprehensive garden exhibition by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, who returned to Miami in December with new works for the first time since the 2006-2007 Art at Fairchild season. During Art at Fairchild 2014-15, the Rose-McQuillan Arts Center will be home to the Chihuly Gallery, where pieces will be available for purchase. Walking into the Arts Center, visitors will see six botanical friezes that were created by Miami-based artist Naomi Fisher, who has a special connection to the Garden. Her father, scientist Jack Fisher, worked at Fairchild for 35 years. In December 2012, Fairchild Garden opened a state-of-the- About Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden Established in 1938 and comprising 83 acres (33 hectares) in Miami, Fla., Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to exploring, explaining and conserving the world of tropical plants. The world-renowned plant collections feature palms, cycads, orchids, tropical fruit trees and more. Fairchild has the largest education program of any metropolitan area, reaching more than 200,000 schoolchildren each year with environmental programs like The Fairchild Challenge. It aims to inspire a greater knowledge and love for plants and gardening so that all can enjoy the beauty and bounty of the tropical world.
