CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, a conservation and education-based garden and a recognized international leader in both Florida and international conservation has opened the Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan Arts Center, a new venue at Fairchild Garden that will exhibit art, music and Fairchild’s rich cultural and botanical exploration history.

“Fairchild Garden now has a spacious indoor venue to showcase both the fine arts and the performing arts,” said Nannette Zapata, Chief Operating Officer, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. “People of all ages will enjoy cultural programs in this beautiful facility, an important new venue for the southern part of Miami-Dade County.”

The Arts Center is named in honor of New York philanthropists Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan, who are bringing their longstanding tradition of philanthropy and nurturing communities to Miami. Rose is co-president of Rose Associates, a New York family real estate development and management firm, whose parents underwrote the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. McQuillan, a retired New York City Police Department sergeant, and avid gardener, is on the board of the Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, an advocate for the nation’s cultural heritage.

The opening of the Arts Center coincided with the opening of this year’s Art at Fairchild program featuring Chihuly at Fairchild, a new, comprehensive garden exhibition by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, who returned to Miami in December with new works for the first time since the 2006-2007 Art at Fairchild season. During Art at Fairchild 2014-15, the Rose-McQuillan Arts Center will be home to the Chihuly Gallery, where pieces will be available for purchase.

Walking into the Arts Center, visitors will see six botanical friezes that were created by Miami-based artist Naomi Fisher, who has a special connection to the Garden. Her father, scientist Jack Fisher, worked at Fairchild for 35 years.

In December 2012, Fairchild Garden opened a state-of-the-art Science Village, Tropical Research Labs, Café and Conservatory, a multi-million dollar science complex for future environmental leaders in Miami. The Science Village now in combination with the Arts Center at Fairchild Garden is a vivid example of the cross-pollination of art, science and music in South Florida.
