JDC Group Shows that Holidays Are a Time for Giving

ATLANTA - Jan. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- As a part of its holiday celebrations each year, JDC Group makes a commitment to participate in charitable giving. The Atlanta technology staffing and recruiting firm picked two charities to give to as a part of its 2014 Philanthropy Initiative: the Sandy Springs Community Assistance Center Food Pantry and the Second Wind Dreams' Gifts of Light program.

The Sandy Springs Community Assistance Center (CAC) Food Pantry works to feed hungry families in the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody areas, which is where JDC Group’s office is located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Pantry's most recently published data shows it gives over 290,000 pounds of food valued at $594,000 annually. It received over 1,000 visits each month from local families and individuals in need.

JDC Group made giving into a game for its employees, who were divided into 3 different teams competing to see which could bring in the most food. Items were restricted to foods found on a list of the CAC's most requested items.

“Too many people in our communities go hungry every day,” said Jeff Paske, Director of Operations & Strategy.  “We have the opportunity to positively impact individual’s lives in our business…it is the same outside of our daily business lives as well.”

Second Wind Dreams is a nonprofit organization which focuses on changing the perception and experience of aging. It achieves this goal by offering innovative educational opportunities to caregivers and communities, and by helping local senior citizens fulfill their dreams and have a better overall quality of life.

JDC Group participated in Second Wind Dreams' Gifts of Light program. This program benefits elderly individuals who are “wards of the state.” These individuals do not receive holiday gifts from family members, so Second Wind Dreams created Gifts of Light to raise awareness and encourage donations of holiday gift packages. JDC Group "adopted" five senior citizens and filled each of their holiday gift wish lists. Employees donated the items, which were then distributed to the "adopted seniors" just in time for Christmas.

Giving back to the community is fundamental to JDC Group's business model. The company's internal value statement is, “JDC Group will be a highly productive, quality-oriented, and service-minded team focused on company, community, and professional growth.” The 2014 Holiday Philanthropy Initiative was coordinated by Sharmeen Patil, HR & Relationship Manager at JDC Group.

Employee participation in JDC Group's annual Philanthropy Initiative is completely voluntary, but the employees support these initiatives with high levels of involvement. Even remote employees participate in the giving, sending gift cards which their team uses to purchase items.
