Follow on Google News | A BIG Book for a Small Rhode Island PressWickford's New Street Communications nabs and publishes American edition of international bestselling author Sarah-Kate Lynch's latest novel, leaving an-up-and-coming firm named Random House to handle the rest of the world.
The American editions of Ms. Lynch's previous books have been handled by such publishing behemoths as Doubleday, just one of Random House's premier imprints. That New Street, founded 2010, was able to acquire American rights for Lynch's latest effort is a sign, says managing director Edward Renehan, "of both New Street's robust growth along with the importance of the many tech-driven publishing advantages and economies such as have enabled our success and that of other 'digital-native' upstarts, all busily disrupting and improving the traditional publishing paradigm. I'm still pinching myself to wake up from the dream where Random House possesses rights for those markets least important so far as per-book revenue is concerned, while our little New Street holds rights to the most lucrative market on the planet. But the dream seems to be reality - which is wonderful." Sarah-Kate Lynch's previous critically-acclaimed books include Screw You Dolores: A Wicked Approach to Happiness, Eating with the Angels, Finding Tom Connor, and The Wedding Bees: A Novel of Honey, Love, and Manners. Lynch lives in New Zealand. She writes the column ‘Date with Sarah-Kate’ in NZ Woman's Day and as well serves as that magazine’s travel editor. Her books have been bestsellers in many countries around the world, with Heavenly Hirani already having attained the top-spot on New Zealand's bestseller list, and equally good performance elsewhere. Renehan - a 35-year publishing vet who has held major positions at Macmillan and other firms - calls New Street a "human-sized concern." The enterprise includes three divisions: the parent imprint along with New Street Nautical Audio and Dark Hall Press. New Street Nautical delivers "the best of the best" contemporary sailing literature (books licensed from such firms as HarperCollins, Random House, Adlard-Coles/ "We of course," Renehan says, "have very high hopes for Hirani, and look forward to the success of a number of other exciting projects in 2015, and beyond."
