FLIPANY Fun Run Gets 2015 off to a Healthy Start

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Jan. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- December 15, 2014 (Hollywood, FL) – Over 900 participants will be starting their New Year off right by making the healthy choice of running/walking in the 3rd Annual FLIPANY Fun Run. All the proceeds from the Fun Run will benefit FLIPANY, the only agency of its kind in Florida that drives the effort to combat childhood obesity locally by providing affordable nutrition and physical activity education to kids, teens, adults and seniors.

FLIPANY’s staff member, an A.C.E. Certified Personal Trainer, has trained over 200 kids from five local Broward County middle schools by providing free physical activity programs and after-school running clinics to help prepare them for the Fun Run.  Chipotle Mexican Grill (http://www.chipotle.com/) donated healthy dinners to the kids and their families after the initial running clinics. The goal of this partnership is to let the kids know that eating healthy can be delicious too. Kenbourne Dawson, a 12 year-old student in OIC of South Florida’s Youth Force program at Silver Lakes Middle School, loves FLIPANY.  “It is a fun experience to be a part of FLIPANY’s nutrition and fitness classes. They helped me lose weight; I used to eat bad food and now I eat better. The instructors help me make better decisions and help me with my future.”

Race day will start off with fresh coffee and tea donated by Starbucks (http://www.starbucks.com/) and nutritious breakfast donated by Whole Foods (http://www.wholefoods.com/). After the race, the day’s events will be family focused with a Kids’ Zone full of games and activities, a big Fun Run Raffle, delicious food and drinks from foodtrucks, Naked Juice (http://www.nakedjuice.com/), and a health-fair expo with informational booths sponsored by Humana (http://www.humana.com/), Memorial Healthcare System (http://www.mhs.net/), Orangetheory Fitness (http://www.orangetheoryfitness.com/), free massages etc.  Awards will be given to each winner per category and the winning school that has the largest contingency participating in the 2015 run/walk will receive prizes such as donated sports equipment from Sports Authority (http://www.sportsauthority.com/) and free tickets to Cirque du Soleil (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/). The Fun Run Raffle will feature such things as an Aveda Product Basket, Gift Certificates to Publix, Target, local restaurants and more, tickets to South Beach Wine and Food Festival event, Family Fun and Fit (http://www.sobefest.com/funandfit)happening at Jungle Island, February 21^st-23^rd and Cirque du Soleil (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/) tickets to Amaluna in Miami till January 25 ^th.
