Follow on Google News | Small Copiers VS Big Copiers: What Are You Paying For?In this article I explain what you need to know when evaluating a new copier for your business. I also discuss how KYOCERA's new M series of MFP's can replace a bigger, more expensive machine.
His business is growing and so is the amount of prints and copies he and his associates are making at the office, so he's not worried about the big lease payment every month. No, in fact it almost represents his success as a business person (almost). After all, the more prints and copies being made at the office in a way represent that he is busy and bringing in more money, right? So, what is wrong with buying a large, robust machine for your imaging needs? Nothing. Actually, big machines play a critical role in some businesses and are 100% necessary sometimes. However in other businesses it is totally unnecessary and could be costing you a fortune. Things to ask yourself when evaluating a new copier for your business: How many prints and copies am I making a month? This is critical. I often ask: "how many boxes of paper are you going through every month?" There is 5,000 sheets per box. Most people have a better idea of how many BOXES they go through a month than how many PAGES they print and copy. What sizes of paper do I use? Unless you are in the construction, engineering or architecture industry, you probably only print 8.5 by 11 inch prints. Be sure to verify what sizes of paper you are using. How much scanning do I do? Larger machines have more robust, faster scanners. If you do a lot of scanning (more than a box of paper per month) then you may need a big machine. KYOCERA Document Solutions has recently developed smaller machines that print as many as 62 pages per minute and scan just as fast; 62 pages a minute! They are surprisingly robust meaning they can easily print and copy 30,000 copies a month or, six boxes of paper. Large copiers are known for their low cost of operation simply because the toner cartridges are larger. But these small machine are very-cost effective per print too; under a penny per copy! And check out the tablet-like user interface. These machines can be configured to hold up to 2,600 pages at a time, however they can only print and copy up to 8.5 by 14 inch prints. So if you are one of the industries I mentioned that needs larger paper sizes, this new line of MFP's won't work for you. Previously, machines that could print, scan and copy at these speeds weren't available. But it only makes sense that multi-function printers just like every other tech product is getting smaller and smaller but more and more powerful. As much as I love working with large, prosperous companies that print hundreds of thousands of copies per month and require big machines or multiple big machines, don't be the guy who gets himself into trouble unnecessarily paying a large sum of money for a large piece of equipment that he really doesn't need. These new machines are wiping out larger copiers rapidly and are a HUGE innovation for KYOCERA. These machines are still very new and are soon to be seen in offices everywhere. I can certainly relate to being proud of something I bought that has a hefty price tag but I wouldn't make that purchase my copier! After all, you can't drive down the street or live in an expensive copier, but you can reduce your monthly payment dramatically and still have a great machine that fits your businesses needs.
