GREENSBURG, Pa. - Dec. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Frosty the Snowman might not have been in town, but quite a few of his friends made the holiday season a bit more special at Newhaven Court at Lindwood, a senior living community in Greensburg.

The Newhaven Court at Lindwood Housekeeping team initiated a project to make sure each resident received holiday cheer in the form of a battery-operated snowman pin. The team assembled the snowmen themselves, which put a special touch on the project.

“Holidays are such a wonderful time of year for most, but for some of our residents it can be a hard time of year as well,” said Stacey Carr, Activities Director at Newhaven Court at Lindwood. “It’s especially difficult for those whose families may be unable to visit. This year our Housekeeping team took it into their own hands to ensure every resident felt a little extra special this holiday season.”

Carr said Executive Housekeeper Debbie Spillar and her team of Nikki Berlin, Vicki Fogleson, Tracie Stewart and Judy Miller spent their own time working on evenings to create the snowmen pins.

“We only wish that everyone could have been here to see the amazing reaction our residents had as they received these beautiful little gifts. You would have thought they won a million dollars,” Carr said. “What an amazingly heartwarming event to see how just taking a little time out of our busy days to do something special can mean so much more than we would ever imagine.”

The snowmen consisted of a white circle with “coal” eyes and teeth. A small light made up the nose. A red hat and green ear muffs complemented the head, while a small gold bell wrapped in a decorative green ribbon made up the snowman’s base.

“Our residents walked through the halls proudly adorning these pins and telling everyone who would listen about the snowmen,” Carr said. “I guess the best lesson we can take from our amazing housekeeping crew is that we sometimes take things for granted and get too caught up in our days. We should remember that the best gift you can ever receive isn’t material things but the wonderful feeling of knowing you were responsible for changing someone’s day for the better. In our case, it was an entire building.”
