Holistic Health & The Himalayan Institute

HONESDALE, Pa. - Dec. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, as many as 30 percent of households suffer from either malnutrition or being overweight, or both. In modern Mexico, about 70 percent of the adult population is overweight or obese - the highest rate on Earth.

No More Poverty - a non-profit organization - is proud to support  The Himalayan Institute for the second year in a row, to join in their fight against life-threatening dietary diseases in Mexico. Specifically, No More Poverty is contributing to the institute's Vida Project, which aims to instill healthier eating habits within Mexican communities.

“The Himalayan Institute is a model and inspiration for us at No More Poverty,” said Michael Omidi, a cofounder of No More Poverty. “The scope of the humanitarian efforts and the effect they have on the global community is truly humbling. We are  thrilled to support the Himalayan Institute’s Vida Project.”

As the world developed inexpensive  food to feed the growing population, most of these new calories started to come from highly refined carbohydrates and oils. The Himalayan Institute is a non-profit organization that aims to educate individuals about food, so they can begin living a healthier life and teach their children how to live a healthy life. Between nutritional counseling, introducing new, organic farming methods, and demonstrating how to be more self-sufficient, The Himalayan Institute hopes that one day it will no longer be needed.

Until that time, The Himalayan Institute will continue to focus on providing education, environmental support and other services to Mexico and other rural communities around the world.
