Yorktown Heights Youngster Got a Double Christmas Treat this Year

Parents of a Yorktown Heights youngster report that their child received two sets of Christmas presents this year after hanging his stockings on both an indoor and outdoor fireplace.

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Dec. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Young Jonathan Smithers of Yorktown Heights has apparently successfully tricked Santa Clause into leaving a double load of presents this morning. Young Jon hatched his plan earlier in the year when it was still summer.  He began pleading with his father to install an outdoor patio fireplace. The persistent lad won after the family was invited to a summer outing at their neighbors, the Jones, who just happened to have an outdoor fireplace. Mr Smithers and the whole family enjoyed Mrs. Jones barbecued chicken and just loved sitting on the patio, toasting marshmallows, and singing old camp songs.

The next day Mr. Smithers was on the phone with The Turf Barbers Inc., a local Yorktown Heights masonry company with years of experience installing outdoor fireplaces. Within a month the Smither's outdoor unit was in place.

Jumping ahead to Christmas Eve, this year Jonathan hung two sets of stockings, one by the family's indoor fireplace and one by the outdoor unit. He dutifully turned in around 9:30, so as not to hold up Santa Clause on his route, and did his best to fall asleep. He was up at dawn, but decided to stay in bed for another full hour lest Santa had got delayed in his rounds. To Jon's delight, when he made his way downstairs he found the stockings full of candies and the living room rug crowded by a bedecked Christmas tree and mounds of presents. Looks like something electronic, he thought, as he raced outside to see what had occurred. And was he happy to find that both stockings were stuffed to the brim with candies and sitting above an outdoor decorated pine tree surrounded by a computerized train set. The tracks sat on a thick bed of snow and the hearty train was busy winding its way through villages and a miniature Alps, before making its way back to the station, along with a whooh ou whooh that echoed throughout the backyard and beyond to the neighbor's houses, little Jon Jon noted proudly.

Boy did I fool Santa Clause or what he thought. When interviewed by the press, Jonathan explained that he and not other children with outdoor fireplaces got two sets of gifts because he put out the stockings the night before. "The stockings were a signal to Santa Clause to leave gifts there," he responded.

"Where do you think Santa landed the sleigh," the reporter asked. "Maybe he has a hover craft," the freckled youngster answered.
