Guerra & Farah, PLLC Obtains Mistrial in Murder Case

Dec. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Guerra & Farah, PLLC is pleased to announce that they have obtained a mistrial ruling in the case against a client charged with murder. The man was arrested in 2012 and charged with committing murder in 1982. The case was pending for 30 years, during which time the man became a temporary legal resident and then later achieved permanent legal resident status in 1990. The man lived, worked, and raised a family in La Mesa and later moved to Waco, where he was arrested.

During the initial investigation, more than 20 witnesses were interviewed about the alleged murder, but the state only located one witness for the trial. This witness was the only person that implicated the firm’s client for the murder. Although other eyewitnesses did not implicate the man for the murder, they could not be located for trial.

Through rigorous cross examination, Attorney Juan Guerra was able to question the credibility of the state’s witness in order to create reasonable doubt that the firm’s client committed murder 30 years earlier. After two days of deliberating, the jury was hopelessly deadlocked and unable to agree on a verdict. The judge granted a mistrial for the man’s murder charges.
