HCL Workforce Solutions in collaboration with Rethink Mental Illness

Dec. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- London, 02 December 2014 –HCL Workforce Solutions is pleased to announce the launch of its partnership with the national charity Rethink Mental Illness. As one of the UK’s largest suppliers of health and social care workers, HCL fully appreciates the impact the service has on vulnerable children and adults, and, as such, takes a great interest in promoting patient safety and improvements in care. It is for this reason that they have chosen Rethink Mental Illness as their corporate charity for 2015.

Rethink Mental Illness, established in 1972, supports almost 60,000 people affected by mental illness in England every year, as well as campaigning to improve mental health treatment and change attitudes.

With mental illness affecting one in four people in the UK, HCL is aware that issues regarding mental health touch, not only the patients that our candidates care for, but also the candidates themselves, our clients, and our employees alike. As such, HCL fully recognises the relevance and importance of the work done by Rethink Mental Illness, and hopes to use this collaboration to attain a better understanding of the challenges faced by those suffering with mental illness and to support the charity to make a difference.

Stephen Burke, CEO, comments on the partnership “HCL’s ethos is one of people and care. As suppliers to the healthcare and social care industry, we never lose sight of the impact that our service has on vulnerable children and adults. As a result, it is vital that everyone in the process, from those supporting the recruitment process, to the candidates placed, is able to perform to the highest standard. This includes caring for their wellbeing and mental health, an issue that could impact anyone. For this reason, we feel it is important to engage with Rethink Mental Illness and promote the important work they are doing.”

The partnership is being launched on Giving Tuesday, 2 December 2014, an international day of giving, intended to encourage charitable giving at the beginning of festive season. This coincides with Rethink Mental Illness’ ongoing +20 campaign, which is addressing the fact that people with severe mental illness are at risk of dying 20 years younger than average from preventable physical conditions, because too many are missing out on basic healthcare. A vital component to achieving this is engaging with healthcare professionals and social workers to involve them in the campaign. Stephen Burke continues “HCL works with healthcare and social workers on a daily basis, meaning we are well placed to gain their views and ideas from a cross section of qualified ground staff, whose voices are often not heard or at worst ignored on the basis that they are temporary workers. As such we can provide a strong link of communication between these professionals and Rethink Mental Illness”.

Mark Winstanley, CEO of Rethink Mental Illness, says: “We’re delighted to launch this partnership with HCL, and look forward to working with them over the next few years.

“In particular, we’re very pleased that we’ll be delivering mental health awareness training to HCL staff as part of the partnership. Mental ill health is the single biggest cause of lost days in employment, but many people struggle to get the support they need to manage a mental health condition and hold down their job.

“That’s why it’s so important that HCL are making mental health such a big priority for their employees, and we commend them for doing so. Not only is it better for people’s mental wellbeing at work, but we also hope it can make a real difference for the vulnerable people that HCL candidates care for.”
