Dec. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Van Nuys, Calif.– Tutor Doctor (http://www.tutordoctor.com/), the fastest growing “in-home” tutoring franchise worldwide, recently awarded Kimberly Mitchell of Tutor Doctor The San Fernando Valley with the 2014 ‘Tutor of the Year’ award. Kimberly was selected for the prestigious award of more than 17,000 tutors in 14 countries based on her extraordinary efforts and commitment as a tutor and mentor. In addition to being recognized as the company’s leading tutor worldwide at the annual award gala, Kimberly was also presented with a $500 check and a luxury all-inclusive vacation for two in Punta Cana.

With a diverse background in teaching children, Kimberly strives to not only instil confidence in her students, but to go the extra mile as a tutor to bring them an extra mile ahead. Through the flexibility of in-home tutoring, Kimberly is able to engrain herself in the lives of her students, supporting them outside of sessions by attending sporting events, recitals and birthday parties to cheer them on and provide her full-bodied support. Being able to see a bigger picture of the students’ home life allows her to better understand their needs and find the best way to connect with them on a personal level.

“It is an amazing feeling to be recognized for my work on such a tremendous scale,” said Mitchell. “As a tutor, I see small rewards every day in the successes of my students – stellar grades, understanding new concepts, graduations, and so on, but this recognition is the greatest reward I have received yet. My students and their success mean the world to me, and I couldn’t be more honoured to be complimented for the work that I love to do.”

Kimberly’s passion for tutoring was sparked in 2001 when she became the owner of an afterschool-care facility while also serving as a substitute teacher in Maryland. By working with students to overcome their academic challenges, she saw firsthand the value and impact that extracurricular learning can have on a child. Not only was she able to boost their confidence by building on their strengths, she also motivated them to have the desire to succeed. Kimberly then moved to the San Fernando Valley area where she provided tutoring services to underprivileged children through a state program until she discovered Tutor Doctor.

“Kimberly is tirelessly committed to her student’s success. She challenges her students every step of the way while maintaining a balance between work and play,” added Robin Rapaport, owner of Tutor Doctor The San Fernando Valley. “Kimberly embodies every characteristic of an outstanding tutor, but the personal bond she makes with each family and her ability to put people at ease are the qualities that truly her apart. The progress made by her students and the praise from their parents just re-affirms the incredible difference she continues to make in these students’ lives.”

One of Kimberly’s favorite lessons to share with her students is that ‘perfection isn’t a place,’ and ‘it’s okay to not know all the answers’. She motivates students to become confident learners and strives to make learning as interesting to her students as possible, because ‘if they aren’t interested, you’re not doing your job’.
