Power Design Hosts Charity Cook-Off Event at Headquarters to benefit Local & National Organizations

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - Dec. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- St. Petersburg, Fla., December 22, 2014 – Power Design, Inc., a national electrical contractor headquartered in St. Petersburg, Fla. recently hosted a BBQ Cook-Off event to engage employees and raise money for charity.Our executives challenged 15 teams to create the best theme and best barbequed food in an effort to win donations for their charity of choice.

“The BBQ Cook-Off was a great way for us to engage our employees, foster teamwork and support charitable causes,” said Marlene Velez, director of human resources at Power Design. “With our continued and anticipated growth, we look forward to hosting additional events like this in the future and continuing to build a strong workforce.”

Teams were given a tented staging area and budget to create the best theme and best barbecue, and they each chose a charity to support in the competition. Winning teams received $1,000 toward their charity, plus a chance in the money machine – some of the sponsored charities include the Wounded Warrior Project, Humane Society of Tampa Bay, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer.

Power Design’s BBQ Cook-Off raised more than $40,000 for twelve charities at the local and national levels. The contributions came from Power Design’s Project V5 program, a charitable fund that collects proceeds from scrap metal acquired at our jobsites nationwide. To date, Project V5 has raised more than $600,000 for charity. Power Design’s current staff of 270 is expected to increase to more than 350 by the end of 2015.
