GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Dec. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- “Stability and success are not exactly the same thing in the business world,” explained Sabrina, RAA Marketing Solutions’ director of operations. “While it’s nice when things are running smoothly, growth is required for a company to stay afloat – and that can get a little bumpy sometimes. Leaders who don’t set goals that encourage their associates to innovate and grow are not likely to be in business for very long.”

According to Sabrina, there can and should be goals for every aspect of an organization – not just the more apparent measurables like revenue or sales. Team growth and promotions, customer satisfaction, and time spent supporting charitable events are all worthy goals for a business as well.

“Clearly-defined objectives serve a very important purpose for each facet of an organization, and for the general well-being of the business as a whole,” Sabrina clarified. “Without goals, there is nothing to measure results against. Also, a team needs to clearly understand the rationale behind a good decision in order to make one, and goals provide those underlying principles.”

With this in mind, the firm’s leadership has renewed their focus on setting objectives for the next phase of the business.

“No matter how well someone understands the importance of goal setting, it still isn’t always easy to do. We naturally gravitate toward activities that provide instant gratification, and setting goals is a way of telling yourself that whatever it is you want, you’re not going to get it right away,” Sabrina said. “However, very few people – none that I personally know of, in fact – achieve anything of importance without first taking the time to set a goal and then work toward its attainment.”

To make the process easier, Sabrina suggests remembering the adage don’t expect what you don’t inspect. The act of goal setting is a way of setting expectations, and these expectations are what move an organization forward. However, without inspection there is no reason for expectation. In other words, goals themselves are useless unless you use them as benchmarks and guidelines by which to guide action.

“Once the need to set goals is made clear, the next thing to remember is that both short-term and long-term goals are vital to productivity and success,” Sabrina shared. “Long-term goals should be identified first, because they help determine the way victory is defined for an organization. After that’s accomplished, short-term goals become a means of moving a team toward the desired end results.
