Stealth Is About To Be Irrelevant?

ELYSBURG, Pa. - Dec. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Just last week, on December 15th, Shiva Science & Technology Group gave a "Sneak Peek" at technology it would officially unveil in 2015.  Among the list was an item that should worry a lot of people, and perhaps make even more happy.  Shiva says that it plans to unveil a system, or, more accurately, systems which can detect, range, and track so-called "stealth" vehicles.

While there are many systems which can accomplish this at relatively close range, Shiva's systems can do so over much longer distances and with greater precision and higher confidence levels.  But the real big impact (pun intended) is due to the fact that some of Shiva's systems can be designed to fit into many existing missiles.

You read that correctly - missiles such as the AIM-9, AIM-120, R-72, and R-77, could house a guidance package utilizing some of these systems, which also work on non-stealth vehicles.  Shiva is remaining tight-lipped about what technology or technologies are behind this innovation for obvious reasons.  But, Shiva does claim that vehicles designed to have minimal radar cross-sections should be as detectable as a "non-stealthy" vehicle to its systems.  It also says that the systems work against "stealthy" watercraft and ground vehicles as well as aerial vehicles.

Shiva also says that it plans on designing systems for platform-launched weapons that can provide the launch platform (e.g., aircraft, ship, etc.) with detection, ranging, and tracking ability so that the platform does not have to be fitted with its own system.  While this wouldn't give the launch platform the same capabilities as its own system could, it does mean that implementation would be far easier and cheaper.  It also gives radar-like capability to platforms that wouldn't normally carry radar.

Shiva is not planning on actually unveiling the systems until the second half of 2015, but when it does what will be the impact of Shiva's technology on defense companies and militaries that have bet big on Stealth?  Stealth technologies have greatly affected military tactics, strategy, and, especially, spending.  It will be interesting to see what effect Shiva's innovation has.
