Multi-Monitor Desk and Workstation Kits Introduced by Fitz Kits

A modifiable, modular workspace that’s more than meets the eye

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Dec. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- For users who want to set up their tech workspace  in a customized way, there’s a new option out there. Fitz Kits, a small business in Virginia, is introducing new kits called the “Commander’s Consoles”, tech desks for gamers, music or video producers, and just general techies or hobbyists. Like an “Ikea for geeks”, they’re designed to let you build your own pro-looking setup, but at a price for regular home or business users.

Modular System Makes Building Like Playing
The kits are based on the Fitz Kits system, a variety of modular steel poles and joints that fit together and tighten with a single hex wrench. This means that putting them together, and making your own furniture, equipment, etc. is like playing with grown-up Tinkertoys. The poles have a thick plastic resin coating that comes in different colors and strengths to give variety to what you can build. Users can make pipe furniture-style structures but without the painting, threading, etc. they’d otherwise need to do.

Kits to Make it Simpler
“A lot of users felt like they needed a jumping-off point when building with the system,” said Cody Wilmer, developer of the kits. “It’s like looking at a blank page. Sometimes it helps to have a foundation to start with, which is what we wanted to provide with these kits.” There are “DIY” versions for the more handy, that include a frame and hardware, they can be finished with wood from a hardware store, or a kit that includes everything for a complete desk.

Developed by a Community

The company was started last year by Wilmer, a caterer who had built equipment for his business using “lean manufacturing” principles. He used the same parts to build himself desks and stations for his computers and 3D printer. Figuring others would like to build with the system as well, he reached out to gamers and other tech users on the forum site Reddit.com, who provided him with tips and feedback on the initial product. “They helped me make sure the parts would fit their systems and the instructions were clear”, he said. “Also they shared photos of their builds, which is great because it shows people so many different configurations.” He’s hoping to develop an online space for people to easily share ideas and custom designs, and keep making new setups for ever-changing technologies and equipment.

Fitz Kits is a small business located in Fredericksburg, VA that operates primarily online. It was founded in 2013 and provides equipment and materials for home, business and education use.
