He presented at NEACCE before hundreds of Chamber representatives from all over New England on the topic “How to Build a Simple 5-Step Business Growth System for Attracting, Converting and Retaining Members.” Costantino, who has been advising businesses and organizations on these principles since 2002, and is the author of the forthcoming book, “ACT Smart Marketing,” scheduled for publication in early 2015. Costantino addressed the challenges that Chambers in general face: declining membership, competition from other business organizations and technology, and the need to show value that translates into membership renewals. Costantino said that Chambers face the challenge of attracting preferred prospects, converting them into members and then retaining them, as well as optimizing the member relationship. A self-described pro-chamber businessperson, he noted that the creation of more than 500,000 new businesses each month offers great opportunity for Chambers to boost their membership ranks. “Generally, Chambers do well with attracting new prospects and converting them to members, but could do better with retaining members and optimizing their value,” he noted. He said that a systematized approach to marketing and sales can help the Chambers expand their membership. A resident of Abington, Costantino works with Chambers of Commerce on membership attraction, retention and optimization through his ACT Smart Business Development system, a step-by-step process that connects marketing and sales to help a business or organization build systems in the five key areas that are necessary to achieve sustainable business growth. The system is built on the premise that a strategic plan is first, that marketing and sales must be an integrated effort, and it is highly focused on taking action.
