City Rescue Mission And Tropical Smoothie Café To Feed 1,000 Plus At Christmas Eve Banquet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dec. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- City Rescue Mission will host its annual Christmas Banquet for the needy on Christmas Eve, December 24. The annual banquet began approximately two decades ago because City Rescue Mission recognized that for many of their clients, a holiday meal at the mission would likely be the only celebration available for them. This year, Tropical Smoothie Café will underwrite the cost of the Christmas Banquet that expects to feed more than 1,000 people.

According to Penny Kievet, Executive Director of City Rescue Mission, more than 3,000 homeless people in Jacksonville don’t have access to basic necessities including a hot meal and companionship. She says the annual Christmas Banquet aims to provide both for the less fortunate during the holiday season.

“This year’s need is greater than ever. Last year we fed more than a thousand people on Christmas Eve. This year, with the help of Tropical Smoothie Café, we will be able to meet that need, and more,” says Kievet.

It’s a need that Tropical Smoothie Café’ CEO Mike Rotondo says his company is honored to meet. “Giving back is at the heart of who we are and what Tropical Smoothie Café stands for as a brand. We hope to make a positive impact in the local Jacksonville community this holiday season and for many years to come.”

The festivities will begin at City Rescue Mission at 9:45 a.m., with dinner volunteers beginning to serve the Christmas Banquet at 11:45 a.m.
