GURGAON, India - Dec. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- New Delhi, 18 December 2014: Thales has won the contract to provide Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) systems for Phase II of Rapid Metro Gurgaon (operated by IL&FS Rail Limited – IRL), which connects to the Delhi metro. Gurgaon is a financial and industrial centre about 30 km south-west of New Delhi.

Under the Phase II project, Thales will provide, install, test and commission complete AFC Systems for the new five-station section of the metro system between Sikandarpur and Sector 55-56. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months.

Thales is a long-standing partner of public transport operators in India. As well as ticketing systems for the New Delhi metro and Phase I of the Gurgaon metro, the company has provided communication and supervision systems for the New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Bangalore metros, and advanced CBTC signalling for the Hyderabad metro. In the Indian mainline rail market, Thales provides electronic axle counters throughout the Indian Railways network. Earlier this year, the company was awarded a contract to provide an ETCS Level 1 signalling system (known in India as Train Protection and Warning System) for the Southern Railway.

Thales's interoperable fare collection systems provide efficient revenue collection, clearing and settlement solutions for transport operators.
