Follow on Google News | Modular Launch Promises to Maximise Profitability Prospects for the Airspace MarketBy: Modular Airspace Systems Ltd While MAS is new to the market, the management team have amassed a wealth of experience in this sector, building not only robust, cost-effective structures, but a reputation for service delivery and a particular specialism in modular design. Their new business was borne from the identification of a need for an alternative to heavier, steel or timber based structures, the weight of which often restricts the number of storeys or floors, or the size of extension that can be built. By using Kingspan TEK structural insulated panel instead (typically a third of the weight of traditional build materials), self-builders and freeholders can ensure optimal use of the space available, maximising the potential for property profitability, and through modular delivery, minimising build times and disruption to neighbouring properties. Commenting at the MAS launch event last week, Managing Director Chris Tonkin said, “Modular construction offers significant benefits to the freeholder, builder or property owner, particularly within the airspace sector.” “The commercial value in making better use of existing space is obvious; however, the manufacture of these modules in an offsite environment also has significant advantages. Where the construction of a traditionally built 3 bedroom house might take around 3 months, we would expect to manufacture a similar build in 3 weeks, with delivery and installation taking just 2 days. This means less time onsite, less disruption to neighbours, fewer planning objections, and generally less hassle.” Jayne Cunningham, MAS’s New Product Director added, “There is also a very strong environmental and sustainability case to consider when investigating alternatives to traditional build. Offsite production allows materials to be precision engineered according to the architect’s design, allowing for very little wastage. The Kingspan SIPs offer excellent thermal performance, and reduce the need for other expensive renewables, such as solar power.” “With government policy requiring that all new public or social housing be carbon neutral by 2016 and changes to building regulations in the new homes market driving forward quality of build, cost-effective alternatives to traditional construction are becoming increasingly relevant.” Modular AirSpace Systems was established in July 2014, and is located in Fort Wallington Industrial Estate, Fareham, Hampshire. An approved delivery partner of Kingspan TEK and Sym-Wall, MAS specialise in the offsite manufacture of modular buildings for the airspace sector, and the new/self-build markets.
