Nightly Chanukah Light Display at Congregation Emanu El

HOUSTON - Dec. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Centuries old tradition meets digital technology at Congregation Emanu El this Chanukah season with a dazzling animated Chanukah light display that will be projected on the window over the temple’s front entrance during the eight-night celebration known as the Festival of Lights.

Chanukah begins at sundown, Tuesday, December 16 and ends Wednesday, December 24.

“On each of Chanukah’s eight nights we’ll light an additional candle on our five-foot tall digital menorah sharing the light not only with our congregation but with our neighbors of all faiths as well,” said Emanu El’s Interim Rabbi Marc Disick.

The Chanukah light display, which was developed and installed by Houston-based Ezscreen.com, will be on view from dusk to dawn throughout Chanukah at Congregation Emanu El, located at 1500 Sunset Boulevard in Houston, Texas.

“In a nutshell, we converted a clear glass window at the synagogue into a bright, high fidelity ‘movie screen’ quickly and inexpensively using our AnyView™ rear projection screen film,” said Steve Kroll, president of Ezscreen. “This film is available by the linear foot or by the roll making it ideal for transforming any window into a rear projection screen or digital billboard.” “It is repositionable, reusable and can safely be applied to glass and acrylic surfaces,” Kroll added.

The menorah, a candelabra that holds nine candles, being projected at Congregation Emanu El, is the symbol of Chanukah. Chanukah, meaning "dedication" in Hebrew, refers to the joyous eight-day celebration during which Jews commemorate the victory of the Maccabees over the armies of Syria in 165 B.C.E. and the subsequent liberation and "rededication" of the Temple in Jerusalem.  Eight of the candles stand for the eight days of Chanukah. The ninth candle, or shammash, is used to light the others.
