EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Dec. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Bonnie and David Phillips understand the stress and pressure that comes along caring for senior parents. Bonnie, an experienced registered nurse, cared for her parents as they got older and David cared for his aging mother for close to a decade. So when the two decided to launch a business, home care was a natural fit.

The couple has just opened Home Helpers & Direct Link of the Chippewa Valley.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor, automated medication dispenser and vital signs monitoring units. Home Helpers & Direct Link of Chippewa Valley serves Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Menomonie, Altoona, New Auburn, Holcombe, Augusta, Eleva, Osseo, Mondovi, Strum, Wheeler, Colfax, Elk Mound, Fall Creek, Cadott, Jim Falls, Bloomer, Cornell, Sand Creek and the surrounding communities.

The couple decided to start their own company when Bonnie was laid off and David, who had close to 20 years at a manufacturing company, was moved into a different position. With Home Helpers, Bonnie will be leading the company with David’s part-time help. The couple’s daughter Samantha is the business’ office manager.

“We sat down to consider what our next steps would be and, as we started honing in on what we wanted, Home Helpers & Direct Link stood out. In-home care options are severely lacking in our area and David and I both understand what it takes to care for seniors. At Home Helpers we strive to make caring for an aging loved one stress- free. We are very familiar with what people are going through and the challenges that come along with it, especially if it the first time someone is looking for help,” Bonnie said.

Home Helpers & Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on each person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, personal care, laundry, light housekeeping, respite care, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication and care management.

The owners and staff at Home Helpers & Direct Link of the Chippewa Falls understand that every family needs something different – whether it’s continuous daily care or just help packing the car for a trip. In fact, Bonnie and David will be spending their Christmas morning helping a client load their vehicle so they can visit with family.

“We got a call from a woman taking care of her parents for a trip to the Dells on Christmas. This woman broke her leg and can’t load the car or strap her dad’s hoveround to the car. We’re going to go out on Christmas morning and help them get loaded up because we know the importance of family. They shouldn’t have to cancel their trip because they can’t load the car,” Bonnie said. “If you have a situation you need help with, just give us a call. We don’t have a minimum set number of hours for services. We just want families in our community to live the happiest lives possible.”

Each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.

“For us and for our caregivers, our philosophy is to keep clients totally engaged in life. We don’t want our caregivers to do things for our clients – we want them to do things with them. If the client wants to go fishing, we take them fishing. If they want to go shopping, we take them shopping. We do not want our seniors sitting and staring out the window because that’s when they start to fade,” Bonnie said.

Home Helpers & Direct Link of the Chippewa Valley is also contracting with a secondary company to provide lawn care and snow removal services. Moving forward, the Phillips family will be looking to expand the company to provide skilled medical nursing services as well.
