The Junior League Of Philadelphia, Inc Honored With Women's Champion Award By Susan G. Komen Philade

The Junior League of Philadelphia recognized as a vital part of the fabric of women's health, empowerment, and future promise

ARDMORE, Pa. - Dec. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Susan G. Komen Philadelphia® has selected The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. (JLP) as one of 25 Delaware Valley organizations being recognized as a Komen Philadelphia Women's Champion. The 25 organizations were selected by Komen Philadelphia as part of its 25th Celebration Year for the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure®, and the JLP will be recognized as a Women's Champion at an awards ceremony on February 6. The Junior League of Philadelphia was chosen for its powerful support of the breast cancer movement in ways that traditional donations to the cause can't provide.

"We couldn't do what we do to save lives and lead the fight against breast cancer without these organizations pursing their own missions with such dedication," said Elaine I. Grobman, Chief Executive Officer, Komen Philadelphia. Without each of these 25 Women's Champion honorees strengthening women in other aspects of individual and communal living, our quest to save lives from breast cancer would be all the more difficult. Komen Philadelphia can move ahead confidently in our own mission every day knowing these organizations are working with extraordinary commitment… they are, indeed, working side by side with us!"

Junior League of Philadelphia President Emily Schwarz, who will accept the award on behalf of the JLP, said, "We are honored to be recognized by Komen Philadelphia as a Philadelphia organization committed to the health, development, and leadership of women. Our mission to improve the community is a passion for our 850 women members, and we are grateful for the partnership of other organizations in our goal to make Philadelphia a better place."

The Junior League of Philadelphia was chosen as an honoree for its high standards of use of donor dollars, integrity of mission and vision, consistency of achievement, respect in the community, and track record of working in ways that complement other non-profit work. In choosing Women’s Champion honorees, a group of Komen Philadelphia advisors, including Board Members, leadership, and respected members of the local community-service arena, sought well-respected organizations that exclusively or primarily serve women in a geographic area similar to that of Komen Philadelphia. The Junior League of Philadelphia is one of 25 inaugural Women's Champion honorees. Komen Philadelphia also looked to create a Women's Champion group that, on the whole, represents a balance of services vital to women, serves a healthy diversity of populations and cultures, and focuses on meeting immediate needs as well building solid foundations for prosperous futures.

Partnering with organizations such as Greener Partners, Lankenau Medical Center/Main Line Health, and SHARE Food Program, the League is developing community programming to meet the urgent needs of the Greater Philadelphia area.
