By: The Knowledge Group, LLC For further details, please visit: http://theknowledgegroup.org/ About Glyn Truscott Glyn has a patent practice that spans a wide range of biotechnology subject-matter. The majority of his work involves the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, and the handling of post-grant opposition proceedings, before the European Patent Office. In recent years, he has handled numerous EPO oppositions and appeals involving biologics and cellular therapies, in addition to supporting litigation in the High Court of England & Wales. These high-value cases have led to a deepening interest in the interplay between patents, SPCs and regulatory issues. Glyn studied Biochemistry at the University of Bath, graduating with a first class degree and the Bill Whish Prize for Biochemistry. During his degree, Glyn completed two six-month research projects. The first project was an investigation into Nuclear Localisation Signals, at Emory University’s Department of Biochemistry (Atlanta, USA). The second project related to vesicle trafficking mechanisms, at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (University of Queensland, Australia). Glyn also carried out bioinformatic research into the factors responsible for stabilising thermophilic enzymes, as his final year research project. Glyn entered the patent profession in 2003 and joined Carpmaels in 2009. During qualification, he was awarded the 2007 Strode Prize for obtaining the highest score in the UK Advanced Patent Practice exam. Regulation and their enforcement of laws against companies for anti-competitive behaviour continue to grow stronger in Europe and America. European Union national courts increasingly refer cases to the European Court of Justice for clarifications and answers to complex issues. Emerging markets keep modifying their IP laws, policies, and procedures which obligate biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to revise their patent filing, management, and litigation strategies. In this webinar, experts will provide practical advice and solutions to the current challenges facing biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and help their intellectual property and legal practitioners keep abreast of the latest relevant regulatory changes, legislative initiatives, and case law in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) During this live webcast, the focus will be upon regulatory updates in the EU and UK regarding pharmaceutical and biotechnological patent law. Experts in patent law will help you understand your legal rights, avoid the stiff anti-competitive sanctions imposed by the EC Commission and the US Federal Trade Commission for ‘pay for delay’ settlements under competition law; provide advice about commercially valuable Supplementary Protection Certificates, and discuss the complexities of competition law, patent filing and litigation strategies, trans-national infringement, managing expiry of patents at home and abroad, and address Bolar and experimental use and research exceptions. The discussion will include the following key issues: § Recent Changes in European Patent Case Law and UK Patents Act Amendments § Claims of UK and European Patent Office and Decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union § Interim and Trans-national Infringement and Enforcing of Patents in Developing Countries (India) § Competition Protection: Laws, Pay-for-delay’ § Patent Expiry: Management, Warnings, Response, and Litigation § Patent Litigation: Risks, Preparation, Opt-Outs § Second Medical Use & Dosing Regimen Risks, Protection, Bolar and Research Exemptions in EU, and Supplementary Protection Certificates About The Knowledge Group, LLC/The Knowledge Congress Live Webcast Series The Knowledge Group was established with the mission to produce unbiased, objective, and educational live webinars that examine industry trends and regulatory changes from a variety of different perspectives.
