HOUSTON - Dec. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Missouri City resident, J. Scott Porter wants to give local fathers and their children a Christmas to remember this holiday season.

Porter, founder of Fathers 2 Dads, is hosting the nonprofit's  first annual holiday toy drive, A Christmas to Remember: Daddy Up: It's Your Legacy Toy Drive and welcomes the  public to drop off toys at Center Stage at 3527 Highway 6, Ste. 250 in Sugar Land and Kenyatta & Co. Studio at 611 S. Mason Road in Katy.

The nonprofit is seeking new, unwrapped toys for children, ages 2- 12.  Suggested items include, board games, puzzles, basic toiletries, socks, undergarments, craft sets and educational toys.

The toy drive, which runs through Dec. 21, will wrap up with a toy exchange on Dec. 22 at Center Stage, a Sugar Land-area art gallery and event facility that is one of the sponsors of the holiday initiative.

Other businesses supporting the drive include: Houston Media Network, Nationwide Technology Group, Gracie Barra Sugarland, Katapult Media and Kenyatta & Co. Studio.

"Their clients have helped out tremendously with this event," said Porter. "Our goal is to reach 125 to 150 families and we are getting close to meeting our goal."

A native of New York, Porter launched the nonprofit in 2011 to encourage absent fathers to become more involved in the lives of their children.

"We want to unite dads with their children in any way possible," said Porter.

Porter, who hosts year-round events to nurture bonds between children and absent fathers, believes that the holidays are an even more important time for kids to see and connect with their fathers.

"If dads, who have been absent from their kids lives, are under-employed or unemployed, we don't want their inability to buy gifts to be a barrier in seeing their kids during the holidays.

"It is good for them to spend times with their kids, but it is even nicer to be able to come with a gift.  It creates a bond and gives the kid something to hold onto," said Porter.

The Missouri City resident calls the toy drive another way to bring families together.

"To get dads to spend that moment, that second, that hour with their children - that is what is important.  For a child it is a memory that can't be replaced," said Porter.
