Connecting Corporate Photography and Social Media

He has been doing high-profile corporate photography for three years for companies like BT Sport and Samsung. Now he finds that he can engage a much larger audience by using social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and branded email, all in as simple and easy to access a manner as possible, so that people enjoying themselves at events can network but it feels part of the fun, rather than a chore.

At the BT Sport awards recently, he had a setup where everyone got a shot taken of themselves at the backdrop, using a Canon 5D tethered to an iMac and by the time they had moved off the backdrop they were handed a BT Sport branded wallet with their lab-quality portrait in it, thanks to the speed of the DNP DS40 printer, regarded as one of the best in their class for this type of work.

“They then could go to a bank of iPads we had hooked up,” Phil says, “and look at the shots of the event, and send them via an email or post them on facebook or twitter. It made the whole event more interactive and social media friendly. Obviously that is multiplying the effect of the event by hundreds of times as many more people are made aware of it. This is a good way to get your brand message across.”

He also creates modern, sharp looking web galleries for the events, where a simple button will publish to social media. “This is new, two years ago no-one wanted it, now it has become obligatory.” With bases in London and Newcastle, Ignite Images covers a wide range of events, including balls and school or university graduations, as well as high-profile corporate awards ceremonies, or simple but effective portrait shots to enhance websites and company reports. With a pop-up studio that can go virtually anywhere and still deliver the quality normally found in fixed studios, Ignite Images are well placed to adapt to the changing requirements of clients. Phil says, “It's a very fast-moving marketplace, but we intend to keep ahead, so we can give people a perfect reminder of the event or a creative portrait that enhances their profile.”
