By: Goldcrest House Eileen Smale, activities coordinator at Goldcrest House says: “This is a very rewarding and fulfilling role for our service users. Even though it can be physically gruelling they are enjoying their work so much, especially when the results are clear to see. Helping to curb the spread of willow is playing a big part in the overall strategy for Oakhill and its aim to be a bigger and better nature reserve and natural attraction for people to enjoy.” The partnership with Oakhill is part of the person centred programmes developed by Goldcrest House to provide each service user with the opportunity to explore their interests and achieve their goals through developing confidence and increasing independence through activities. Based on Boothferry Road Goldcrest House is a centre of excellence dedicated to addressing the individual needs of adults over 18 affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties. It is a residential home that provides long-term integrated specialist day and residential care to meet the varied needs of those who access the service 52 weeks a year; its aim is to be the UK’s quality service of choice.
