IRS Grants Non-Profit Status to Civilian Exposure

Civilian Exposure, founded in 2013, is building awareness, accountability and assistance for civilian DOD workers exposed to contamination both at Camp Lejeune and at all U.S. military installations.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Dec. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Civilian Exposure, an organization founded in late 2013 by founder Gavin P. Smith to address civilian health issues due to contamination aboard Camp Lejeune, NC was recently issued 501c3 non-profit exemption from the IRS.

“I am excited to announce that the IRS has officially granted 501(c)(3) exemption to Civilian Exposure,” said Gavin P. Smith, Founder/President of Civilian Exposure. “To achieve our mission with extensive media outreach, marketing and other activities, it is necessary to solicit substantial funding. In addition, I would like to create future college scholarships for children of civilian DOD workers impacted by contamination on bases across this country. Gaining 501c3 status opens the doors to much-needed grants, crowdfunding, sponsorships, individual donations and other forms of revenues needed to grow Civilian Exposure. I’m very excited to achieve this next step in the process.”

Smith, also a member of the CDC/ATSDR Camp Lejeune Community Assistance Panel, collaborates with members of the CDC, ATSDR, US Congress, USMC, US Navy, DOD, EPA and VA to scrutinize and publicize ongoing research studies.
