Stanford Health Care Purchases ICD-10 Flash Cards for Complex Procedure Coding Training

Dec. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Stanford Health Care – nationally ranked in 12 specialties and named the top hospital in the San Jose region by U.S. News & World Report – has purchased 20 sets of Libman Education’s ICD-10 Root Operations Flash Cards for complex procedure coding training.

“We think the flash cards are a great tool to help with the complex procedure coding,” said Kathy Fennick, RHIA, CCS, Director of Coding for Stanford Health Care. “We plan on showing our CDI department as well so they can consider using them.”

The recognition of the cards’ value is reflected in the popularity of their online companion video tutorial. Since its July 17 release this year, the “ICD-10-PCS Root Operations Flash Cards Presentation” – delivered by nationally recognized ICD-10 expert Lynn Kuehn, MS, RHIA, CCS-P, FAHIMA –  has had about 8,500 views on YouTube.

The set of nine 5×7, double-sided cards is designed by Gail I. Smith, MA, RHIA, CCS-P, also a nationally recognized ICD-10 expert. The cards help coders to learn the ICD-10-PCS root operations quickly and to know how to identify each root operation in a medical record.

The front of each card lists the root operations grouped by common characteristics, while the back provides a detailed definition of each root operation, highlighting how to distinguish one root operation from another – with examples of each.
