LEBANON, Tenn. - Dec. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- After 20 years of caring for individuals at hospitals and clinics, Janet Akers is looking forward to providing compassionate in-home care for local families around her hometown through her new franchise, Home Helpers and Direct Link of Northern Middle Tennessee.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor, automated medication dispenser and vital signs monitoring units.

“I moved back to this area because I wanted to provide quality healthcare services to my hometown. I’ve worked in the healthcare field for more than 20 years. I’m opening this Home Helpers & Direct Link franchise because the demand for in-home care services is increasing  as more of our loved ones get older and because this is the perfect way for me to offer something to my community that will make a difference in their lives,” Akers said.

With Akers’ new franchise, Home Helpers & Direct Link will be able to serve seniors and families in Wilson, Sumner, Trousdale, Macon, Smith, Putnam, Robertson and Davidson counties. The company has been serving Bellevue, Belle Meade, Brentwood, Franklin, Green Hills, Hendersonville, Lavergne, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, and Smyrna.  Akers will be working alongside a fellow franchisee,  Bobby Harter, owner of Home Helpers of Middle Tennessee.  Harter and Akers are working together to make sure the standard of care in the entire combined area is at the highest level possible.

“Bobby and I are working very closely to be sure each and every caregiver we bring onto either of our teams is the perfect fit. We want people who will be great at the job, but we also want people who have service in their hearts. We won’t be hiring any caregivers we wouldn’t entrust with our own family members,” Akers said.

After growing up in Hendersonville, Akers earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Tennessee Tech University and spent several years in Southern California. She has worked in the healthcare field doing direct patient care, managing large medical offices, and developing and implementing electronic medical records software. Most recently, she was a senior healthcare consultant, working with hospitals, facilities and ambulatory physician offices across the country to implement electronic health records and improve revenue cycle management in the healthcare field.

Home Helpers & Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, laundry, light housekeeping, respite care, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication management and care management.

Each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.

“As our senior population continues to grow exponentially, we’re going to reach a point where our current systems of care won’t be able to meet everyone’s needs. The key is working with in-home care to keep people as healthy, safe and comfortable in their homes for as long as possible. That’s the best way to help our seniors live longer, happier lives,” she added.
