Debra Lampert-Rudman is well known as an award-winning ceramic artist, writer & teacher (currently teaching at the Arts Council of Princeton) and owner of champion show dogs.   One of those dogs inspired the creation of Iris the Architect, a delightful story for ages 3 and up, beautifully illustrated with Debra’s own watercolors.

The book, recently named "one of top five favorite books for dog lovers", tells the tale of Iris, a parti-color Cocker Spaniel born to be a champion show dog and follow in the footsteps of the rest of her family. Iris’s Mama is distressed when Iris doesn’t seem to be taking the matter seriously and regularly misses out on first place. Something is obviously amiss as Iris tells Mama that she will practice harder, take more baths and eat her veggies but still doesn’t win best in show! But, more than anything, Iris wants to draw and dance to her own tune. Seeing a competition in the paper to create a perfect home for homeless dogs, Iris is determined to win. With an uplifting happy ending appealing to readers of all ages, Iris has been called “an icon for pursuing one’s passion, purpose, and path in life.”  Additional details about Iris the Architect are found on the publisher’s website http://fbs-publishing.co.uk/ourshop/prod_3454589-Iris-the-Architect-Hardback.html

About the Author/Illustrator

“I love creating functional and decorative ceramics and watercolor paintings that tell poignant dog stories filled with humor,” said the artist. “Dogs depicted in my work are generally doing things no one expects them to do, but rather what they believe it is possible to do.”

Some of America’s most popular dog breeds are featured in the five showcase display now on view at the Springfield Public Library including the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Bulldog, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, French Bulldog, Jack Russell Terrier,  Whippet, Cairn Terrier and others.  http://www.springfieldpubliclibrary.com/joomla25/

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel shown seated at her desk, replete with her own candlestick, is surely what renowned author "Jane Austen" would look like if she were a dog.

Functional pieces such as platters, bowls and teapots are included, as are large lidded boxes and sculptured pieces whose only function is to please. Each of Ms. Lampert-Rudman’s ceramic pieces is sculpted of high-fired stoneware; wheel-thrown, hand-built or a combination of both. Each unique piece is hand painted three times to obtain the desired depth of color.

Debra Lampert-Rudman also creates ceramic pieces on commission, and she has a long list of happy clients.  Kelly Ladouceur, publisher of ACN Review recently noted, “The instant I saw “The Professor” (a sculptural ceramic piece depicting a Cocker Spaniel reading a book), I felt a connection with the piece. The detail is amazing... I am thrilled to have a piece of Debi’s heart in my home.”

Ms. Lampert-Rudman is currently accepting new commissions.  For more information on Iris the Architect, upcoming events, Debra Lampert-Rudman’s art, and her dogs (including the real Iris), visit www.potterypup.com or contact her directly at potterypup@aol.com
