SEATTLE - Dec. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Introduction:

SeaChar was founded in Seattle Washington in 2008.Our mission is to promote the understanding and use of biochar, a highly durable form of charcoal, as a wedge strategy to combat climate change, while it builds the health and productivity of our soils.

Biochar is the high carbon by-product of biomass energy production. Across the world traditional farmers have used charcoal to build more productive soils that store carbon drawn down by plants from the atmosphere. Science shows us that this form of carbon is stable for 1000's of years. Each pound of biochar produced removes three pounds of CO2 from the carbon cycle. That makes the biochar technology cluster a truly carbon negative form of energy production and a potentially significant wedge strategy for mitigating climate change. In 2009 we developed our Estufa Finca (Farm Stove) biochar producing cook-stove as a tool that could put this powerful idea into the hands of farmers and gardeners around the world. The stoves are micro-gasification devices that burn clean and can use a wide range of waste biomass as fuel.

SeaChar now has 5-years of experience introducing this concept in North and Central America. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rowc0Y-1plY&amp...

Awarness:

We are aware of the fact that we are working on the "bleeding edge" of development work with concepts that most people have never heard of.  The risk of failure in this situation is always high. We have experienced failure, you have to accept that risk if you are going to learn and move forward. We have 5-years of that kind of hard-won experience. This is why we feel confident that we can produce and test the device the people we have been working with have been asking for. Our greatest challenge is to give donors and investors confidence in our ability to contribute to real and lasting positive change. A tested and certified biochar producing stove, based on our years of field experience is the foundation we can build that confidence on. That is what it will take to get these stoves into the hands of farmers and gardeners from Seattle, Washington to Bri Bri ,Costa Rica. You are going to help us lay that foundation.

We need your help:

In order to complete our prototyping and have the Estufa Bella 3rd Party tested for emissions and certified as an improved cook-stove we need to raise $5000. $3000 of these funds will be paid to the Aprovecho Research Center http://aprovecho.org/ for the testing and certification. $2000.00 will be used for the construction of the first ten of these stoves and the kit of custom tools it takes to produce more of them in field situations. If we can reach this goal by the beginning of 2015 SeaChar has secured a commitment from a generous donor of a $3000 grant to support a small demonstration project with these new stoves in Central America in 2015.
