L.A. Wolves FC and Santa Monica Sporting FC Battle to 2-2 in Heated UPSL Play

Local West Side Rivalry between L.A. Wolves FC and Santa Monica Sporting FC at Toyota Park Ends in Draw with Goal in Extra Time by the Wolves.

TORRANCE, Calif. - Dec. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- December 8, 2014 – The L.A. Wolves FC (5-2-1) battled to a 2-2 draw versus first place Santa Monica (6-2-0) as both teams battled for first place in the Western Conference of the UPSL. The two clubs meet Sunday night at Toyota Park in Torrance,Ca as a nice rivalry has developed between the two clubs of the UPSL Western Conference.
Santa Monica Sporting FC got on the board first in the 26’ minute of a nice combination of passes on the right side which led to a goal of a cross from the right side that beat Wolves Goalkeeper Lucas Nascimiento. After a substitution on the 35’ minute that put Wolves Midfielder Diego Turoldo back into the middle of midfield, the Wolves started to gain some possession momentum and in the 43’ minute the Wolves were rewarded a penalty kick off a nice series of passes in the box that resulted in Jamie Duffy being taken down. Duffy proceeded with the penalty kick but the Santa Monica keeper guessed right and save the ball thus the score line ended in the first half with a 1-0 lead for Santa Monica.

Santa Monica looked like they were going to make it a long night for the Wolves as off a corner kick, Sporting collected a loose ball in the box and made the score 2-0. The Wolves needed to respond and they did with some good energy with Jonathan Caparellli coming into play on the right side of midfield as the Wolves finally got back into the game with a nice series of combination passes starting at midfield that included Wolves Russian Midfielder Damir Baimagambetov who came in as a sub in the 73’ minute. The fast combination of passes in the box once again created havoc for the Santa Monica defense as Duffy was once again taken down in the box of a nice pass from the left side from Wolves Forward Andre Turoldo. This time Duffy would be sure not to miss as he hammered home the Penalty Kick in the 83’ minute to make it 2-1 which set the stage for some last second heroics. With less than one minute to play the Wolves received a free kick on top of the box and with essentially no time left Jamie Duffy once again got the call as he converted the free kick into the right hand corner of the net as it was deflected of a Santa Monica defender sending the Santa Monica goalkeeper in the wrong direction. The score ended 2-2 as both teams could say they both had the better of play. Next the L.A. Wolves will take on Penmar FC LA in another important match to keep on top of the table this Saturday.

Yan Skwara President/GM of the L.A Wolves FC. “I am pleased we salvaged a point but I would have preferred to get the win. The team showed some guts and character to battle back after being down 2-0 so that is a big positive. We need to keep going as we are slowly but surely getting closer to the playoffs so we need to keep the pace and keep working hard at training.”
