PRLog -- Some home owners are aware of leaking oil tank problems. They may have removed the tank years ago, but believe that if they say the tank is removed the potential buyer wlll not look into the matter further. A unremediated site could cost the buyer from 10K-100 K to remediate and this could become realty if the contamination reaches a neighbors property and the health department and the NJDEP are involved. Environmental Systems recently started providing a "Oil Tank Search" services that searches Federal, State, County ad Municipal records for property information. This search provides the buyer with information regarding the history of oil tank on residential or commercial propertties. This service should be used with " Oil Tank Sweeps" and Soil Borings. As no one component will provide the entire environmental picture of a site. Many home buyers only have a oil tank sweeps performed, if they use a contractor that only has a metal detector they cold be missing a tank due to depth or a tank located under Asphalt or Concrete. Ground Penetrating Radar provides the best Tank Sweep evidence providing Metallic and Non Metallic survey viewed thru a screen. If a tank is not found soil boring should be completed to identify any suspecious areas. Purchasing a home is a big investment, saving money on "Due Diligence" is not cost effective and could cost thousands of dollars later for clean-up. Environmental Systems has over 20 years expereince with undergound stroage tanks, tank locating, removal and remediation of commercial and residential tanks.
